On A Tree Called Life

"Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart"

E. E. Cummings

---------------------------------------------

When the tree called life bowed for the wind
When the tree called life started shedding its leaves
When the tree called life dropped its shadow
I no longer saw the stars
I looked down and waited to hear the dreaded sound
The sound of a falling tree hitting the ground

Quietly she flew in
Happily she built a nest
There she sang, she laughed, she danced
She knew how to walk on the weakest branch
Turning it into a wild dancing floor

Dew-washed blossoms and green leaves
Marched on every branch of the thirsty tree
Just like in a children story:
Everything happened on its time

Proud the tree stood facing the wind
The shadow embraced the flowers beneath
There, in all its majesty
Life declared victory
And I raised my head and saw the stars

So tenderly she left
But before she flew
She danced on every branch
She touched every leaf
She kissed every blooming blossom
She wanted the tree to stand
She wanted the tree to be there

She is a messenger of life
A prophecy of a long-waited for spring
She a nest-maker, a blossoms knitter
a painter who owns the color green
She is a the definition of Eve
She is the one present in every language and every happy dream

She flew leaving the warm sap running through the tree
The tree grew higher than my soul can hope or my mind can hide
And I No longer wonder what is the secret keeping the stars apart

I will always carry your heart

With love,
